Early Works by Ivars Gravlejs + MACK
Early Works is an eccentric scrapbook documenting Ivars Gravlejs‘ schooldays in Latvia during the 1990s. Instantly memorable, Early Works sends you back to the bizarre world of school life in what is surely one of the most original and unique photobooks of the year.

Norilsk by Alexander Gronsky + The Velvet Cell
Alexander Gronsky photographed Norilsk, situated in the Siberian North, the most northern city in the world and the most polluted city in all of Russia. Proof that a landscape photobook need not be large and unwieldy, and another excellent book from publisher Velvet Cell who have produced a series of refreshingly unassuming photobooks.

Life Is One Live It Well by Henrik Malmström + Kominek Books
Life is One Live it Well takes us to the bars of St. Georg in Hamburg. For four years, Henrik Malmström befriended regulars, bartenders and clients and became part of the scene. He captured the mood and the lurid details brilliantly in harshly lit colour. An interesting companion to Anders Petersen’s classic photobook Cafe Lehmitz.

Moisés by Mariela Sancari + La Fabrica
Following the death of her father Moisés in 1990, Mariela Sancari and her twin sister were never able to see their dad’s body. As they attempted to deal with their grief, they had the feeling that everything was a nightmare and that somehow they would find him walking in the street or sitting in a café. The photobook, Moisés is a typology of portraits of men in their 70s, the age that her father would be today if he were alive. Photobook craft and a moving story are married in very effective fashion.

Muhit by Ilkin Huseynov + Riot Books
Small publisher Riot Books has produced a string of highly original and often handmade photobooks. Mühit is a hanuting journey through photographer Ilkin Huseynov‘s memories of his childhood in Azerbaijan. The first edition of Mühit was limited to just 100 copies, so this 2nd edition is very welcome.
