In March 2015, the small Italian city of Pordenone was shocked by a yet to be solved double murder which received a lot of attention on both local and national media. Photographer Mattia Balsamini, editor Gabriella De Domenico and graphic designer Lucia Del Zotto, the members of the Fernweh collective who are all originally from Pordenone, were inspired to make a photobook that would creatively tell the factual story of the killings while critiquing at the same time the media’s gossipy approach to the news.

The result is Elementi Utili (Useful Elements), a book that uses archival photographs, newspaper clippings, infographics and many other design techniques.
